Description and Uses: Our Rose Otto (attar) is produced by a Bulgarian rose growing company and essential oil distiller with a century-old tradition of fine quality essential oil distillation.
Our Bulgarian Rose oil is steam distilled (no solvent extraction) and is 100% pure. This rose oil contains the essence of Rosa Damascena flowers, cultivated in Bulgaria. The perfect location of "The Valley of the Roses" and climate with gentle sunshine ensures the fragrance, purity and naturalness of the essential oil intact and uncompromised. The usual rose harvest time in Bulgaria starts around the third week of May and continue, depending mainly on the weather conditions for three to five weeks. The yield of oil can be dramatically affected by the weather. The best weather conditions for Rose harvest is mild and humid weather with night temperatures around 24-28 deg. C. Under normal conditions, harvest begins as soon as the flowers start opening and continues until all the flowers have been gathered.

More Info: The Rose flowers are picked up very early in the morning while the morning dew is still on them, bagged and transported to the distillery as quickly as possible. The quantity of flowers picked up for the day is closely matched to the amount that can be processed in one day since if the flowers are not kept fresh they begin to deteriorate and the precious volatile oil evaporates and looses quality.
The pure, undiluted Rose Essential oil that results from this process is absolutely the finest Rose available. Rose Otto is a warm, intense, immensely rich fragrance. One of the oldest and best known of all essential oils, Rose is used in all types of perfumes to lend beauty and depth to the aroma. Pure Bulgarian Rose Otto is a yellow to yellow-green oil which tends to solidify into a translucent mass at temperatures below 20°C. The aroma is warm, floral, specifically dense, fine with honey notes, specific for Bulgarian Rose oil.
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled. Bulgaria has a 330 year-old-tradition in Rose essential oil steam distillation (not solvent extracted) and is 100% pure. Absolutely no carrier oils are added! It takes about 10,000 pounds of flowers to make one pound of rose oil.
Only pure steam distillation leaves the oil in its natural state. This pure rose otto contains the essence of the precious and beautiful rosa damascena flowers cultured in the Valley of the Roses in Bulgaria. This perfect location and climate, with gentle sunshine, ensures minimum release of the aromatic ingredients from the flower.
The wax film on the rosa damascena remains thin because the plant does not need to strive to protect itself from strong solar radiation as do roses in other countries. This explains the smaller content of stearoptenes (waxes and solids) in the Bulgarian rose oil. Through steam distillation the scented oil globules are gently separated from the pink petals, leaving the fragrance, purity and vibration of the essential oil intact and uncompromised.
