Description and Uses: Our organic Tuberose Solid Perfume / Tuberose Body Butter is very rare. In fact, we cannot find anyone else anywhere who sells it. This Tuberose Body Butter is created as the middle step of Enfleurage.
Rub just a dab on wrist, behind ear or at nape of neck to experience the sensual aroma of pure organic Tuberoses. The entire process of producing these solid perfumes (we have Gardenia body butter too) is done by hand using no heat and no chemical solvents. Pure local palm oil is used to absorb the aromatic oils from the flower petals and once the palm oil is completely saturated with the essence of the flower it becomes a "body butter" aka "solid perfume".
To produce the essential oil, one would continue the process of Enfleurage by separating the Palm Oil from the Tuberose oil by mixing in cane sugar alcohol to which the essential oils migrate. The palm oil is removed. Then the alcohol is evaporated leaving only the Tuberose oil. The process is quite labor intensive and requires many pounds of flower petals per ml of oil but the results are astounding. If you close your eyes and sniff the aroma of the oil, it cannot be differentiated from the actual flower. For a more complete description of the process, go to our web page: Enfleurage

More Info: Tuberose essential oil is one of the most precious oils in the world and is renouned for its' mesmerizing aroma and fragrance. During the extraction process, fresh, fully opened flowers are plucked from the tuberose plant and carefully laid on trays covered with a layer of palm oil. The essential oils from the flower petals slowly migrate to the palm oil and the process is repeated until the palm oil is completely saturated with the oil of the Tuberose. Then the Tuberose oil is separated from the palm oil by alcohol which then evaporated leaving only the pure Tuberose oil, i.e., Tuberose Essential Oil.
The heavy, sometimes slightly spicy, tenacious and sweet-floral fragrance of the Tuberose flower is quite distinct from all others. Perfumes using Tuberose are considered to be quite fabulous and are very expensive. In fact, a simple Tuberose Perfume can be made by simply diluting the Tuberose Essential Oil to about 5% in a carrier or base oil on in alcohol or a combo of the two. The unique aroma of Tuberose can rejuvenate the mind and body and Tuberose's magical fragrance is also considered to have powers as an aphrodisiac. In India it is called "Mistress of the Night". Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) is native to Central America. Aztec healers called it omixochitl (bone-flower) due to the waxy, luminous white flowers. In Ayurvedic tradition, tuberose is also known to stimulate serenity, creativity and psychic powers and is used to increase capacity for emotional depth by opening the crown chakra. Tuberose is also said to increase artistic inspiration as it stimulates creativity and brings serenity to the mind and heart. Additionally, it possesses powerful anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory healing properties as well.
Tuberose oil cannot be distilled like most essential oils due to the delicate nature of the flowers. Enfleurage was the traditional method of extraction used in ancient Egypt and into the early 20th century but solvent extraction using hexane, to create "absolutes", has virtually replaced enfleurage, except, of course, for our own Tuberose Essential Oil. Solvent extracted Tuberose is used extensively by the perfume industry but, again, not by us (no chemicals are used to extract the Tuberose that we sell). Either method (enfleurage or solvent extraction) is time consuming and oil yields are quite small for the amount of materials used. Over 3500 pounds of blossoms are needed to produce 1 pound of the essential oil which is why Tuberose Essential Oil is one of the most expensive oils on earth, even more than most rose attars. Tuberose oil is frequently combined with jasmine and orange blossom in perfumery to produce a tuberose perfume. In traditional Hawaian wedding ceremoniesTuberose flowers are worn as a wreath around the head of the bride.
